Women in Tech – How becoming a mom while launching my startup helped us grow

Tuesday, November 12, 2024
5:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST

Rebecca Nguyen has covered a wide range of experiences on her way to her current role as CEO of ValleyMatch.  She started in the world of finance (insurance) and migrated towards the tech field.  Beginning her career in product management, she eventually went on to oversee design, marketing, and analytics functions including one position where she started as a manager of 2 and grew to manage 5 departments of 30+ people.

Rebecca is not your typical tech entrepreneur – she decided to start her startup while she was pregnant, knowing that she would have to juggle entrepreneurship with being a first-time mom. Instead of being discouraged by the challenge, she decided to use the experience to her benefit.

She holds a BA in Organizational Studies and Economics from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the Haas School of Business. She’s worked at Liberty Mutual, AutoFi, Rakuten, PayPal, Checkout 51 (a spin off of News America), and Bay Valley Tech (a local non-profit tech bootcamp).  All this experience led her to start ValleyMatch, a matchmaking platform that focuses on authenticity and in-person connections. ValleyMatch has experienced 30% month over month growth, operated profitably from the start and recently won the Best of Elk Grove prize in the Pitch Elk Grove competition.

Come hear Rebecca’s stories and tidbits about how she got where she is, and some lessons learned along the way!
